Feature your pet in “Franklin Living”

I can hardly believe it’s time again for our annual pet edition of “Franklin Living.”

We always dedicate our March/April edition of our lifestyle magazine to all things pets. It’s one of our very favorite themes – and we know it’s one of your favorites as well. March might seem far off, but we already have this issue in production.

I’ve been at the Franklin County Times for 2.5 years now, so this will be my third pet edition to put together for our readers. This is a theme that really allows me to relish in the aspect of community journalism that I most enjoy – talking to people about their passions.

Pets are a passion for so many, and it just puts a smile on my face to talk with folks in Franklin County about their love for animals.

In crisscrossing this county to cover the gamut of stories, I meet many pet-owners and their beloved animals. I’ve met plenty of dogs and cats, of course, but also chicks, a guinea pig, turtles, hogs, horses and more. Sometimes, maybe even usually, the story isn’t even about the pet – but we wind up talking about pets anyway.

My family always had a dog, when I was growing up. My husband and I don’t have any pets now, except for Bo, the neighborhood dog. Bo’s owner died a few years ago, and now he’s a wanderer. It’s a little sad he doesn’t have a place to call home – but don’t worry too much about Bo. I think every household on our street feeds him, and he has any number of porches and carports to sleep in. He gets along all right.

In each issue of “Franklin Living,” we present three or four stories that fit into our theme for that edition. In March/April, however, we get to highlight many more pets than just three or four. We can feature dozens of furry friends in our Faces of Franklin County pages.

Want to see your pet in “Franklin Living”? We are now accepting submissions for this year’s edition.

Please mail your pet’s photo to P.O. Box 1088, Russellville, AL 35653, or email to alison.james@fct.wpengine.com. Please include the name of your pet, the owner’s name(s) and the area in Franklin County you are from.

We will feature each photo in this upcoming edition of the magazine – a keepsake for you to cherish.

Let us make your pet “Franklin County famous!”
