Bulldogs barrel past Bobcats for win

By Bart Moss / For the FCT

Mason Bragwell scored 19 points in the second half to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Phil Campbell Bobcats 68-52.

Phil Campbell led Belgreen by two points at the half on a strong defensive effort and some big three-pointers by Rhett Benford, who is nursing an injured knee. The Bulldogs, however, were too strong in the second half, blowing past the Bobcats for the win.

The two rivals were tied at the end of the first quarter, 14-14. Phil Campbell out-scored Belgreen 15-13 in the second quarter to take a 29-27 lead into the locker room. Belgreen opened up a lead in the third quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 18-9. The Bulldogs outpaced the Bobcats 23-14 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Hackleburg had no answer for Mason Bragwell, who scored 27 points in the contest.

Belgreen led Hackleburg 20-16 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead by two to 37-31 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 19-5 in the third quarter to take a 56-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Mayberry, Seth Taylor and Scott all scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively. Brant Bragwell added five points, Eli Hiser four points and Jake Taylor two points.
