Red Bay boys win fifth straight

After two losses to start the season, the Red Bay Tigers have rolled off five straight wins, including two last week against Hatton and area foe Lamar County. The Tigers are 2-0 in area play.
“Even though we have four returning starters, we are still working on getting some new guys in the lineup,” said Red Bay coach John Torisky. “Clay Allison and freshmen Braden Ray and Jalen Vinson are still getting used to playing with these guys. We knew Haleyville would be a challenge, but we felt we let the game against Belgreen slip away from us. From that game forward, I think the team really started to believe that they can be a good team, and now that confidence is starting to show up in games.
“They are getting more comfortable and are aware of what their roles are.”
Red Bay got a big area win last week with a 59-46 victory over the Lamar County Bulldogs.
The Tigers jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead and extended their lead to 31-17 by halftime. Red Bay led 43-27 at the end of the third quarter.
Ray led the Tigers with 14 points, followed by Gath Weatherford with 13 points. Allison added eight points, Noah Brewer seven points and Hunter Bays six points. Colton Corum and Peyton Green finished with five points each. Tanner Hamilton added a point.
Red Bay 54, Hatton 29
Red Bay had no problem dispatching the Hatton Hornets, winning 54-29 Friday night.
The Tigers held a 10-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, 17-7. Red Bay extended the lead to 32-17 at halftime and held a commanding 45-24 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Weatherford led Red Bay with 18 points. Weatherford was followed by Allison with 12 points. Ray added eight points, and Green had six points. Bays and Zac Humphries scored three points each. Brewer and Corum finished with two points each.
Girls
Red Bay 57, Lamar County 55
The Red Bay Lady Tigers picked up an area win over the Lamar County Bulldogs, 57-55.
Lamar County led Red Bay early with an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers came roaring back, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-15 in the second quarter to take a slim 27-26 halftime lead.
Red Bay extended that lead to 45-36 in the third quarter and had to fend off a comeback attempt by Lamar County. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 19-12 in the fourth quarter.
Carlie Lindley and Reagan Kuykendall led Red Bay with 14 and 13 points respectively. Brooke Shewbart followed with 10 points. Savannah Shaw had seven points, Mallori Miller six points, Macy Faulkner three points and Destiny McCollister two points.
Hatton 70, Red Bay 65
The Red Bay girls fell in overtime to the Hatton Hornets 70-65 Friday night.
Red Bay held a big advantage at the end of the first quarter, leading Hatton 22-10. The Hornets, however, climbed their way back into the game, outscoring Red Bay 17-10 in the second quarter and 15-8 in the third quarter to take a 42-20 lead. Red Bay outpaced Hatton 20-18 in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
Kuykendall led Red Bay with 27 points, followed by Carlie Lindley with 19 points. Faulkner also hit double digits with 12 points. Miller and Shewbart finished with three points each. Lila Blackburn scored one point.
B-Varsity Boys
Red Bay 38, Hatton 25
The Red Bay B-Varsity boys team defeated the Hatton Hornets 38-25 last week. Alex Kennedy led Red Bay with nine points. Lane Shewbart and Cam McKinney followed with eight points. Tanner Hamilton had seven points.
