Red Bay faces challenging start

A Red Bay rally in the fourth quarter came up just short, as the Haleyville Lady Lions won 53-51, spoiling Sonya Marks’ debut as the Tigers new girls basketball coach.
Haleyville led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 27-19 at halftime. Red Bay chipped away at the Haleyville lead in the third quarter by two points to make the score 41-35. The Tigers outscored the Lions 16-12 in the fourth quarter, coming up just short of the win.
Reagan Kuykendall led the way for Red Bay with 20 points. Carlie Lindley and Macy Faulkner followed with nine points each. Mallori Miller added eight points. Destiny McCollister and Savannah Shaw finished with two points each. Lila Blackburn had one point.
Varsity Boys: Haleyville 59, Red Bay 44
The Red Bay Tigers fell to the Haleyville Lions in their opening game of the 2017-18 season, 59-44. The Tigers had no answer for the Haleyville inside game.
Haleyville jumped out to a 18-6 first quarter lead. Red Bay cut the lead by two at halftime, 31-21. The Lions outscored Red Bay 14-6 in the third quarter to take a 45-27 lead into the final period of play.
Braden Ray led Red Bay with 12 points. Colton Corum and Gath Weatherford followed with nine points each. Clay Allison added six points, Peyton Green had five points, and Jalen Vinson finished with three points.
B-Varsity Boys: Red Bay 37, Haleyville 28
The Red Bay Tigers jumped out to a 23-13 first half lead en route to a B-Varsity boys win over Haleyville, 37-28.
Lane Shewbart led the Tigers with 14 points. He was followed by Hunter Burks with 11 points.
