Vina sweeps Belgreen in baseball action

The Vina Red Devils swept the Belgreen Bulldogs in area matchups last week. Vina beat Belgreen 14-10 in game one and 7-3 in game two. Vina’s Jacob Lewis led the way in game one, going 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and a single. In game two, the Red Devils used a four-run first inning to propel them to victory.
Vina 14, Belgreen 10
Vina jumped on Belgreen early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Belgreen walked 13 batters throughout the game, including walking the bases loaded in the first inning. All of Vina’s four first inning runs came as a result of bases loaded walks. Tyler Renfrow, Braden Moomaw, Austin Harper and Blake Hardin all scored on walks.
Vina picked up two more runs in the top of the third inning. Jacob Lewis scored Josh Cochran on an RBI triple. Lewis later scored on an RBI single by Andrew Upton.
Belgreen picked up three runs in the bottom of the third inning, all due to a fielding error. Vina led 6-3 at the end of the third inning.
The Red Devils picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hardin and Jackson Landers scored on a two RBI triple by Lewis to give Vina an 8-3 edge.
Renfrow scored on a passed ball in the fifth inning to extend Vina’s lead to 9-3.
Vine scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Landers scored on a wild pitch. Lewis scored on a bases-loaded walk. Gravitt and Renfrow both scored on a two-RBI single by Chris Brewer to give the Red Devils a 13-3 lead. Belgreen picked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Luke Henson and Jake Taylor both scored on errors. Seth Taylor scored to end the inning.
Vina led Belgreen 13-6 at the end of the sixth inning.
Vina picked up their last run in the top of the seventh, when Upton singled in Lewis. Belgreen added four more runs in the bottom of the inning. Scott scored on a single by Ashlee Britton, and Mason Donohoe scored on a single by Jake Taylor.
Vina’s Lewis led the way in game one, going 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and a single. Upton picked up two hits and two RBIs. Brewer had two RBIs. Renfrow scored three runs, and Hardin score two runs.
James Barnes got the win, pitching six innings, allowing three hits and three walks and striking out nine. He gave up eight runs.
Luke Henson led Belgreen, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Britton had two RBIs.
Vina 7, Belgreen 3
Vina scored four runs in the first inning, and it was all they would need to complete an area sweep of the Belgreen Bulldogs, winning 7-3 last week.
Belgreen scored first, getting two runs in the first inning. Jacob Mayberry scored on an RBI double by Payton Scott, who scored on the next at-bat when Mason Donahoe roped a single to centerfield.
It would be the only lead of the day for the Bulldogs.
In the bottom half of the inning, Vina responded with four runs of their own. Gravitt scored on a double to left field by Austin Childers. Jackson Landers scored on a hard-hit single to left field. Upton scored on an Austin Harper triple to right field. Harper scored on a single by Blake Hardin. Vina led 4-2 at the end of the first inning.
Vina added another run in the third inning when Harper hit a home run to deep left field, making the score 5-2.
Belgreen picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning when Gavin Taylor scored on an RBI double by Henson.
Vina scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring. Lewis scored on a bases-loaded walk. Renfrow scored on a bloop pop fly past the shortstop.
Harper and Upton had big games for the Red Devils. Harper went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Upton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Gravitt went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Renfrow got the win for Vina, pitching a complete game, allowing eight hits and three runs and striking out eleven.
Scott led Belgreen, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
