Tharptown creams Vina 13-0

After two scoreless innings, the Tharptown Wildcats pulled away for an easy 13-0 shutout win over the Vina Red Devils last week.

Tharptown picked up three runs in the third inning, six runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning on 14 total hits in the game. The Wildcats allowed the Red Devils only two hits and made two errors in the field. Tharptown was helped by six Vina errors.

Tharptown got on the board in the third inning when Shaylee Wieting scored on hard-hit ball by Klaudia Harris. Harris, who reached on an error, later scored on a fly ball by Olivia Ergle. Taylor Cameron scored on an RBI single by Ameliah Dawson to give Tharptown a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Wildcats started their scoring on a two-RBI single by Cara Ergle scoring Wieting and Harris to extend Tharptown’s lead to 5-0. Ergle later scored on a pop fly single by Brooke Daily. Ameliah Dawson hit two RBI double to score Cameron and Daily, giving the Wildcats an 8-0 lead. Tharptown added one more run in the fourth when Ameliah Dawson scored on a hard-hit ball by Catie Dawson.

In the fifth inning, Tharptown scored four more runs. Wieting scored on a line drive RBI single by Cara Ergle. Harris scored on a hard-hit ball by Daily. Cara Ergle and Daily scored on another two-RBI double by Amelia Dawson.

Ameliah Dawson and Cara Ergle had big games at the plate. Dawson went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and scored a run. Ergle had two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. Daily went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kaylee Bain, Harris and Cameron had two hits each. Wieting and Harris scored three runs each.

Cameron got the win for the Wildcats, pitching a complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out six batters.

Abby Hester got Vina’s only two hits in the game.
