Albert Dent Richards

October 21, 2015
Albert Dent Richards, age 80, of Louisville, passed away Oct. 21 at his residence after a well-fought battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at the Louisville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ralph Wooten officiated, and burial followed in the Louisville Cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24, at Kent Funeral Home in Clayton and again one hour prior to services at the church.
Dent was born June 5, 1935, in Russellville, to the late Albert Oscar and Lillian Francis Dent Richards. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), where he earned a degree in business administration and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Dent married Rita Claire Whigham of Louisville, and they were stationed in Ft. Sill, OK. He served a tour of duty as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and later was a captain in the National Guard. Dent retired from the State of Alabama as a Supervisor of Examiners of Public Accounts.
He was a good friend and a positive presence everywhere he went. Dent enjoyed deep sea fishing and spent many hours taking his friends, children and grandchildren out, always making sure everyone had a successful day on the water. He also enjoyed working on the farm and taking care of the cattle. He enjoyed watching and encouraging his grandchildren in their sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita Claire; parents, Albert and Lillian Richards; and his brother, Bob Richards, of Russellville. He is survived by his sons, Jeff Richards and wife Sandra, of Eufaula, and Alan Richards and wife Lisa, of Dothan; five grandchildren, Dent Richards, Caroline Richards, Holt Richards, Mary Leigh Richards and Devan Hale; and one great grandchild, Addie.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Louisville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 125, Louisville, AL 36048 or the Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30309.
