RHS Volleyball sweeps Haleyville to open season

By Josh Prewitt for the FCT

Russellville Lady Tigers Volleyball opened the season last Thursday with big road wins. Varsity swept Haleyville in three games (25-20, 25-21 and 25-16) and junior varsity swept Haleyville in two games (25-22 and 25-11).

“I’m very proud of the girls,” Coach Charlotte Dollar said. “They played together as a team and kept each other pumped. Biggest thing was, they had each other’s backs.”

“The new players really stepped up for us big tonight and did a great job,” Dollar added.

Varsity’s Madison Lamon led RHS with 22 assists and two aces. Patricia Borden had five kills and eight digs, and Megan Brockway added six kills and three digs. Kali Beth Daniels finished with seven kills and three digs, and Michaela Smith had five kills and five blocks.

Junior varsity’s Karlie Moore had five aces and two kills. Kaitleen Arzola and Alejandra Zargoosa each added seven digs.

“Going into this game I knew we could win, but I was still nervous. Through the game we played as one; even though we had our ups and downs, we never gave up,” said Brockway. “This win really pumped us up, and I know we can have a great season. Coach Dollar has really pushed us at practice, and we thought she was crazy for being so hard, but she knows we have it in us. Tonight we encouraged each other and kept each other pumped up.”
