RHS cheerleaders plan mini clinic

By Alison James

The annual mini cheer clinic, hosted each year by the Russellville cheerleaders, is fast approaching.

The mini clinic will be held Sept. 8-10, Tuesday from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday 3-4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. at the West Elementary School gym. The camp is open to girls in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

“They are so excited. It is just electric that week,” said cheer Coach Stephanie Mayfield.

Cost is $30, which includes snacks, a cheer T-shirt and a spirit tattoo for the girls to wear to the Sept. 11 Golden Tigers vs. Columbia football game, where they will show off what they have learned. The girls perform their cheers (by grade level) and dance (all together) prior to the National Anthem.

“They will be so excited to get on that field,” Mayfield said.

Funds raised from the mini-camp will help the Golden Tiger cheerleaders to purchase necessary supplies like paint and posters.

“It’s just something we can offer to the community to get them excited about cheerleading,” Mayfield said.

Deadline to sign up is Thursday, Sept. 3.
