Kathryn Reed Green

Aug. 21, 2015

Kathryn Reed Green, 90, of Asheville, N.C., passed away on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at the CarePartners Solace Center.

Mrs. Green was born on Aug. 11, 1925, in Russellville, to the late Cecil and Wayne Bowen Reed. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Franklin Green, who died in 1995; sister, Martha Reed Beall; brothers, Keith, Hugh and Don Reed; soninlaw, Jim Cefaloni; and special cousin, Bobby Bowen.

Mrs. Green was a graduate of Russellville High School, where she was honored as Homecoming Queen. After moving to Asheville and raising her family, she retired from the National Climatic Center, where she worked for 28 years. She was also a longtime member of West Asheville Baptist Church.

Although she lived most of her adult life in the mountains of North Carolina, she was always an Alabama girl, never losing love for her hometown and its people. She was an AVID University of Alabama football fan – ROLL TIDE!!

Mrs. Green is survived by her daughters, Kathy Drake (George), of Fairview, N.C., and Jan Green, of Townville, S.C.; devoted family members, Kay Reed Cauthen, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Billy Bowen (Peggy Jean), Jackie Bowen (Ann), and Sue Bowen; and other cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville, N.C.

The family wishes to thank the Blue Ridge Premier Medicine doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Clay Ballantine, CarePartners Solace Center, and the Mission Hospital 3rd floor heart unit for their loving care.

Donations may be made to the following charities in Mrs. Green’s memory: American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060, or to CarePartners, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

Groce Funeral Home assisted the family in Asheville, and the online register is available at www.grocefuneralhome.com.
