July Fest goes off with a bang

It was a hot one for Vina Rescue Squad’s July Fest Saturday, but that didn’t stop folks from turning out for the great music, food, activities and fellowship.

“Everything went good,” said Rescue Squad secretary/treasurer and July Fest coordinator Denise Rogers. “We had a huge crowd for our fireworks show.”

Junior Noble and Ricky Ewing split the $17,000 from the draw down raffle.

Dozens of activities drew the community and surrounding areas to Vina. The day started off with a 5K, of which Williams Woods and Elizabeth Baty were the top male and female winners, and a fun run, which Braden Moomaw won.

Although Rogers said a number of people came in the morning and left in the heat of the day before returning for the evening activities, it was still a wonderful event for Franklin County.
