Extension provides school supplies for grandchildren
By Staff Reports
With the return of the school year comes the need for gobs of paper, pencils, crayons, notebooks and other supplies for students. These supplies are often costly and can be a financial challenge. The Franklin County Extension is providing relief to some who are facing these annual expenses.
Grandparents who are 55 years or older and raising grandchildren can stop by the Franklin County Extension office, in the basement of the county courthouse, Aug. 4 from 1-3 p.m. to collect free Back to School supplies.
Supplies will include No. 2 pencils, a 2-inch three ring binder, notebook paper, spiral notebook, Kleenex, pens, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks and hand sanitizer.
Grandparents must bring an ID and a list of children they care for, including those children’s ages, birth dates and school supply lists from their schools.
Supplies are donated by the North Alabama Council of Local Governments and Alabama Cares.
The courthouse is located at 410 N. Jackson Ave., in Russellville. For more information, call 256-332-8880.
