Larry Joe Gargis, age 61, Leighton, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his residence.

The visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Hopewell Church of Christ (LaGrange Road, Leighton); with the body lying in state one hour prior to the service.  Bro. Danny Winningham will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Bentley Gargis; mother, Donnie Gilbert Gargis; maternal and paternal grandparents; and nephew, William Lee Thornton.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Lena Soto and, husband, Jaime, Leighton; grandchildren, Andrea Soto, Gabriela Soto, both of Leighton; step-grandson, Delmar Soto Lara of Guatemala; sister, Kathy Olson and husband, Bob, Huntsville; brother, Howell Gargis and wife, Laura, Florence; aunts, Blanche Aycock, Dorthy Zills; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends.

The pallbearers will be Darryl Pennington, Dewayne Pennington, Roger Pennington, Ricky Chaney, Gary Quinn, and Tony Chaney.   The honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Gandy, Jerry Berryman, and Ronald Chaney.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the personnel of Alacare Hospice, as well as Daddy’s caregivers, Pam, Francis, Tonya, and Andrena of Adult Sitters Agency.  You will never know how much you were appreciated in our time of need.  Thank you to all our friends, family, and neighbors for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity.   We love you all.
