Belgreen wins Bobcat Classic

 

The Belgreen Bulldogs, who will host their area tournament, defeated Red Bay, Cherokee, and Phil Campbell on their way to winning the tournament.

Belgreen defeated Red Bay 7-1 in game one on a strong pitching performance by Laken Bragwell.  Bragwell struck out seven batters and gave up only one hit.  Emmie Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Bulldogs defeated Cherokee in game two, 4-3.  Bragwell struck out five and helped herself by going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Shelly Barber went 2-for-3 from the plate as well.

A four-run second inning for Belgreen was all they needed to top Phil Campbell 6-2 in game three.   Belgreen met Cherokee in a rematch in the championship game with the same result, a one-run win, 6-5.  Allyson Bragwell went 2-for-3 with two triples and Grace Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple.

The tournament improved Belgreen’s record to 13-10.

 

 

Vina splits games in Aggie Classic

 

Hackleburg put together a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to nip Vina, 5-4.

The Panthers went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning, but Vina responded with a run in the third and one in the fourth to go ahead 4-3. Hackleburg tied the game in the fourth before scoring in the fifth to win.

Erica Cantrell (8-15) struck out three in taking the loss for Vina (8-15).

Abby Hester went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI, leading Vina to a 5-1 victory over Red Bay in the Aggie Classic at Hamilton.

Skyler Smith contributed two hits, two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI for the Red Devils (9-15).

 

Tharptown defeats Red Bay

Kaitlyn Vandiver got a rare pitching appearance and allowed only two hits as the Tharptown Wildcats closed out their regular season with at 10-0 win over Red Bay.
