Basketball round-up

The junior high division of the Franklin County Tournament tipped off Jan. 3 at Belgreen High School. The semi-finals will be played the evening of Jan. 8 and the finals will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10.  There are four divisions: 7th and 8th grade junior girls, 7th and 8th grade junior boys, 9th grade junior girls and 9th grade junior boys.

 

7th and 8th Grade Junior Girls Divisions

 

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Tharptown Wildcats 59-5. Autumn Bragwell led Belgreen with 12 points.

 

The Red Bay Tigers defeated the Phil Campbell Bobcats 23-15. Amber Kelton led Red Bay with 15 points.  Maddie Riddle led Phil Campbell with six points.

 

Belgreen and Red Bay will play in the finals Jan. 10 at 10 am.

 

7th and 8th Grade Junior Boys Division

 

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the East Franklin Rebels 42-32. Taylor Welch led Belgreen with 19 points.  Cade Baker led East Franklin with 12 points.  Belgreen will play top-seeded Red Bay Thursday, Jan. 8 at 4 pm with the winner advancing to the finals to play Tharptown on Saturday.

 

The Tharptown Wildcats defeated the Phil Campbell Bobcats 40-32. Tristen Hampton led Tharptown with 11 points.  Nate Owens and Cole Motes scored ten each for Phil Campbell.  Tharptown will face the Red Bay/Belgreen winner on Saturday in the finals.

 

The finals of the 7th/8th grade boys division will be Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 am.

 

9th Grade Girls Division

 

The Tharptown Wildcats defeated the East Franklin Rebels 40-23.  Amelia Dawson led Tharptown with 20 points.  Anna Benford led East Franklin with 10 points.  Tharptown will play Phil Campbell in the semifinals Thursday at 6 pm.

 

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Vina Red Devils 57-26.  Johnna Oliver led Belgreen with 13 points.  Emma Humphres led Vina with 16 points.  Belgreen will play Red Bay in the semifinals Thursday, Jan. 8 at 5 pm.

 

The finals of the 9th grade girls division will be Saturday at 12 pm.

 

9th Grade Boys Division

 

The Tharptown Wildcats defeated East Franklin 46-41. Levi McCormack and Cole Daniel led Tharptown with 14 points each.  Daniel Smith led East Franklin with 20 points. Tharptown will play in the finals on Saturday, Jan. 10 against the winner of the Belgreen/Vina semifinal game.

 

Belgreen and Vina will play the other 9th grade boys semifinal game Thursday Jan. 8 at 7 pm.

 

The finals of the 9th grade boys division will be Saturday Jan. 10 at 1 pm.
