Mabel Herring Kennedy, 91, passed into heaven on Dec. 26, 2014. She was born to Raymond and Sophia Herring. She graduated from HodgesSchool in Hodges in 1941. Her father was determined for her to go to college. She graduated from FlorenceStateTeachers College in 1945 and went on to teach many 3rd graders over a 36 year career. She married Virgil R. Kennedy on Aug. 16, 1946 and they were long time members of the FirstBaptistChurch in RedBay.
Services will be on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at FirstBaptistChurch in RedBay with Bro. Larry Hill officiating. Burial will be in RidgeCemetery.
She is survived by her loving son, Steve Kennedy and wife, Patsy, of Fayette; three grandchildren, Chris and Amy Kennedy Turner, Patrick and Karen Kennedy and Brad and Kasey Kennedy; eight great grandchildren, Paige, Caleb, Joshua, Bella, Ensleigh, Tyler, Bentley and Annelise; several nieces and nephews.
She will also be missed by her special friends, Shirley Bostick, Barbara and Gene Kennedy, Edna Gibson, Margie Pharr, Ruth and Vic Jackson, Peggy Cox, Jeanette Pearson, many friends in her Sunday School Class, Bro. Larry Hill and neighbors in the Banner community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Lorene Sullivan and her brother, Lamar Herring.
Pallbearers were Patrick Kennedy, Brad Kennedy, Chris Turner and Paul Cleveland.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1-2 p.m. at FirstBaptistChurch, RedBay.
