Book Lovers Study Club end of the year party

Members of Book Lovers Study Club were treated to an end of the year Christmas dinner at the home of Michelle Sibley.  Her home was adorned with beautiful decorations for the holidays. Following dinner a short business meeting was held. Secretary Susie Malone distributed copies of the minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report and both were approved. Brenda Oliver reported that $60 had been raised for the Trick or Treat UNICEF Campaign. Also 120 pairs of socks were donated by members. Fifty-seven bags of socks were prepared for Safe Place to give to their youths and adults as part of the Step Away from Abuse Project.

President Cheri McCain reported that three books had been donated to the Russellville City Library in honor of guest speakers Richard Hoffman, Doug Clement and Paula McDowell who had presented programs during the year. The books presented were  “Hands in Harmony: Traditional Crafts and Music in Appalachia,” “Letitia Baldridge’s New Complete Guide to Executive Manners,” and “Mountain Biking, Skiing, and Snowboarding.”

Shelia Upchurch gave a report on the fundraiser held at The Cottage in November. Patricia Cox, Home Life Committee Chairman, recommended that a movie basket containing DVDs, popcorn, candy, drinks and gift cards be purchased for $150 and present it to the residents at the Girls Fame Ranch on Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m. She also reported that each girl had received $75 in gift cards so they could go shopping.

Shelia Upchurch presented the institute on the book, “Kisses from Kate.” Following the presentation, the institute members enjoyed the rest of the evening exchanging gifts.
