Vina falls to R.A. Hubbard

By Matt Wilson

For the FCT

The Vina Red Devils fell to 1A Region 8 foes R. A. Hubbard 39-13 to fall to 1-3 in the region.

The Red Devils fell behind 18-0 in the first quarter as the Chiefs came into the game on a 62-0 scoring barrage against their last two opponents.

Hubbard continued to push the tempo and the score line as the Chiefs took a 26-0 lead into the halftime break. Vina had a few opportunities, but found a way to stall progress time and time again.

The Chiefs tacked on another touchdown before the end of the third quarter and rested on a 32-0 lead going into the final frame of the evening.

Eli Hiser had another productive game for the Red Devils as he nearly hit the century mark in receiving yards hauling in five catches for 97 yards. Hiser also picked up a fumble by the Chiefs in the fourth quarter and set up the first touchdown by returning the fumble down to the one-yard line before the Red Devils punched it in to get on the board.

In the waning moments of the game, Tyler Renfrow completed a pass to Hiser who took it down to the goal line again. Vina scored again as time expired.

Vina plays Hackleburg Oct. 10 on the road. Hackleburg is sitting at 5-1 and is coming off a 48-0 win against region opponent Waterloo.

Vina finishes their region schedule against Phillips on Oct. 17 at home and Shoals Christian Oct. 24 in Florence.

The Red Devils’ final game of the season is at home against Holy Spirit Catholic on Oct. 31.
