Russellville Middle School recently received a $1,197 education grant from the Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council to be used to purchase eight Dell Venue tablets and a power cord.

These tablets are providing Internet access for research and group learning in the classroom without the students having to make a trip to the library.

“The value of having the opportunity to use the tablets in the classroom is priceless,” said Karren Sewell, a reading resources teacher at Russellville Middle School.

“The success of the project is determined by seeing my students actively learning and participating in their own learning.”

The number of students that will reap the benefits of these new educational tools is currently at 80 but will increase exponentially over the years.

Roger Hayes, Chairman of the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council, said that RC&D is proud to play a part in making the classroom a better learning environment for Russellville Middle School students.

“The RC&D Council has gotten a lot of positive feedback from schools that use advanced technology, and it seems that both the kids and teachers love using them,” Hayes said.

Hayes also expresses his appreciation to Senator Roger Bedford as well as Representative Johnny Morrow for their excellent representation of this area and their continued support for the RC&D in the state legislature.
