RPD establishes sub-station

The Russellville Police Department will have an increased presence on the east end of town now that their new sub-station is up and running.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said the sub-station is located at Eastside Apartments where the former Safeplace office was located.

Hargett said the sub-station is something the department has wanted to implement for some time now as a way to be more visual in this particular area.

“We have had some different issues in this area over the past few months, and we think that having an increased presence here will be a deterrent to some of the things that have been going on,” Hargett said.

“Bobby Brown coordinated with the housing authority in order for us to utilize this space, and so far it has been beneficial for our officers and the community.”

Hargett said the sub-station would serve as a place where officers can do reports and check in periodically.

“This sub-stationed won’t be manned 24-7, but it will be a place where our officers can go to take reports or complaints, do their paperwork, and just generally check in,” he said.

“It gives the officers a chance to be seen more often in this area, which we think will be a good thing.”
