Russellville youth basketball camp set

By Matt Wilson

For the FCT

The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department will host the fifth annual Russellville Youth Basketball Camp on July 15, 16, and 17 at Russellville Middle and High schools.

Registration for the camp runs through July 15 and costs $25 per camp attendee. An additional $10 fee will be added for those who register on the first day of camp.

The basketball camp runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and ends at 12 p.m. on July 17. Campers are urged to be picked up on time at the end of each day.

Camp instruction will be headed by Coach Michael Smith as well as former Russellville Golden Tiger basketball players.

The fifth annual camp is open to boys and girls and is broken into four age divisions for 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, and 14-and under.

Parks and Recreation Director Chad Sears said he expects a turnout of about 100 kids.

“We usually have a good turnout at this camp each year,” Sears said.

“It has grown each year and we’ll have somewhere around 75 or 100 kids out there.”

Sears said he enjoys putting this camp on because it gives the kids a chance to work on their skills.

“This is a good camp and the coach and the former players do a good job for the kids,” Sears said.

“It gives them a chance to compete against some of the kids their age and work on their personal skills, like ball handling.”

Registration before July 15 can be done at the Russellville Parks and Recreation Department and at the Russellville Middle School gym on July 15.
