The Phil Campbell Parks and Recreation Department will host the 13th annual Hoedown Festival June 20 and 21 in downtown Phil Campbell.

As usual, the event will include a wide range of activities over the two days of festivities.

Activities for the 2014 Hoedown Festival include a car show, a Moon Pie eating contest, a bubble-blowing contest, a dance contest, and games and rides for kids.

The local vendors will be set up around town starting on June 20 at 5 p.m. Entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. June 20 and 10 a.m. on June 21.

The car show will be held June 21 in the First Baptist Church parking lot. Sign-ups for the car show begin at 7 a.m. and awards will be given out at noon. Sign-up fees are $20 per car or $30 for two cars.

Councilwoman Lynn Landers, organizer for the Phil Campbell Car Show, said she hopes there will be a good turnout this year.

“Cars of all makes and models are eligible for entry,” Landers said.

“There will be two trophies given away this year as well. One for Mayor’s Choice and one for People’s Choice.”

Landers said there will be 25 dash plates given out to the first 25 cars that register for the car show.

“There will also be a 50/50 drawing for those that want to participate,” Landers said.

The Bubble Blowing Contest will award trophies to the winners and the current Guinness World Record holder for bubble blowing, Chad Fell, will be in attendance as well.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and come out and enjoy the festivities.
