Red Bay, Vina excel at county track meet

The Red Bay boys and the Vina girls won the 2014 Franklin County Track Meet held annually at Red Bay.

The Tigers just edged out the Tharptown Wildcat boys’ team by two points, 224.5 to 222.5. Vina’s girls scored 253 points.

In the boy’s match-ups, Red Bay’s Reed Holt was the county’s top sprinter finishing first in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Tyler Reach finished second in both the high jump and long jump. The Tigers 4×100 meter relay team finished first with a time of 47 seconds. The team was made up of Reed Holt, Austin Childers, Jesus Kelly and Tate Ozbirn.

Tharptown’s Zack Wilson was the county’s top jumper winning the high jump and long jump. Carlos Perez was the county’s lead distance runner winning the 1600-meter and 800-meter runs.

Daniel Wooten accounted for 32 of Vina’s boys’ points in the track meet. Wooten won the 400-meter run, finished second in the 200-meter run and was third in the long jump. He was also a member of the Red Devils 4×100 meter relay team that finished second to Red Bay.

In the girl’s match-ups, the Vina Red Devils mastered the intermediate and long distances and the field events. Morgan Humphres finished first in the 400- and 800-meter runs and the triple jump. She was also on the 4×800 meter relay team. Elizabeth Baty finished first in the 3200-meter run and third in the 1600-meter run. She was also a member of the 4×800 relay team and the 4×400 relay team.

Tharptown’s girls led the main sprint event with Kalee Bain winning the 100-meter sprint and Shelby Palmer coming in second.
