James M. “J.R.”  Hooper, Jr.

James M. “J.R.”  Hooper, Jr., 62, of Florence, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Shoals Hospital.

He was born May 1, 1951, in Leighton.

J.R. will be cremated per his wishes, with an interment and private memorial service for family and friends at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Milton Hooper and Eva Christine Williams Hooper; brothers, Jimmy Colburn and Donald Hooper; sisters, Brenda Sheffield and Barbara Kay Hooper.

He is survived by long time companion, Lois Reed; brothers, Jerry Hooper and wife, Sandra, Larry Hooper, Willard Hooper and wife, Kathy; sister, Peggy Trousdale and husband, Thomas; special niece and caregiver, Elaine Summerhill; special nephews,  Ron Sheffield, Arleace “Geechie” Patterson, Channing “C.J.” Fuqua; other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Shoals Hospital for the love and care they gave to J.R. The family requests no flowers; donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
