Hoyt Wayne Pounders, 69, of Spruce Pine, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Pounders was a native of Franklin County and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Spruce Pine, where he served as a deacon for 48 years. He worked at U.S. Reduction, was self-employed in the furniture business, and drove a school bus for Franklin County Schools.

The funeral service was Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Spruce Pine, with burial in Franklin Memory Gardens, Russellville. Officiating was Gary Yielding and Jerome Sherrill.

Survivors include wife, Marjorie Pounders; children, Kevin Pounders and wife, Nicole, Pearl, Miss., Kelly Gray and husband, Roger, Spruce Pine, and Kristie Goines and husband, Brandon, Russellville; brothers and sisters, Orbie Pounders, Spruce Pine, Reba Lawler, Tallapoosa, Ga., Jimmy Pounders, and Kathy Canida, both of Spruce Pine; grandchildren, Kyle Spears, Jerrod Goines and wife, Candace, Dillion Goines, Lauren Goines; great-grandchildren, Will Spears, Madison Spears, Kaleb Spears, and Charlie Goines; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Clyde and Inez Pounders; and brother, Athel Pounders.

Special thanks to Timmy Spears and Laken Lawler for the loving care they gave.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Spruce Pine Baptist Church Building Fund.
