Vernon C. Blackburn, Sr., 73, died Monday, May 27, 2013, in Naperville, Ill.

He was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Vina. He was a member of the Boiler Makers Union for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in the yard.

Services were Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. W.D. Humphres officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Vina.

Survivors are his children, Alison Durham and husband, James, of Florida, Vernon C. Blackburn and Calvin Blackburn, both of Aurora, Ill.; two grandchildren, Courtney and Haley Blackburn, both of Middleburg, Fla., five brothers, Marshall, J.C., Freddie, Kyle and R.C. Blackburn; four sisters, Letha Beaty, Mary Spencer, Virlie Hardin and Shirley Morrow and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Blackburn in 2000, his parents, Charnel and Clistie Holland Blackburn, two brothers, William and Charley Blackburn and two sisters, Elatrice Pounders and Anita Vargas.
