John Wayne Patterson, 69, Phil Campbell, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at his residence.

He proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Force, the Mississippi National Guard, and served in Vietnam. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a gifted singer and musician.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Curtis Taylor and Bro. William Borden officiating. Burial will be in Spruce Pine Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Welch Patterson; children, Alysia Graves and husband, Kurt, Jonathan Strickland and wife, Jessica, Christy Nix Woodson and husband, Michael, Lorie Nix, Dustin Patterson, Alexis Patterson; grandchildren, Madelyn Graves, Conner Graves, Braxton Strickland, Canaan Pounders; siblings, Patsy McCrimon and husband, Mike, William Welch and wife, Shelia; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Welch; one nephew, three nieces and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Inez Patterson; father-in-law, William Welch.

The pallbearers were Randy Cooper, Chris Farris, Gary Duboise, Michael Smith, Tim Heath, Robert Williams, Bobby Williams and Joey Berry.
