Donna Gail Preston, 34, of Monrovia, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.

She was born Aug. 30, 1977, in East Gadsden.

A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Monrovia.

Gail is survived by her mother, Nelda Preston, her father and step mother, Gary and Jennie Preston, her brother Eric, aunts and uncles Jim and Sandy Little, Tony and Brenda Preston, and Donna and Wesley Thigpen.

Gail graduated from Sparkman High School in 1995. She attended Judson College, and then transferred to Calhoun Community College and completed her education at Athens State University, where she graduated in 2002 with a degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education. While at Calhoun, she worked in after school care at Westminster Christian Academy, and later was employed with Head Start.

A member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Gail was an active member of her Singles Bible study group, Women on Mission, and the adult sanctuary choir. Many children were blessed by her teaching, and she participated in many mission trips, including South Dakota and on Long Island.

Gail was the Relay for Life team leader for her church each year, raising money for the American Cancer Society. Gail’s hobby was photography. She loved the children she taught at work and church, and got involved with their lives attending their ball games, birthday parties, and graduations. She loved her family and her church and she looked forward to having her own family. Gail took an interest in everyone she met. Her sweet spirit made her many friends. Her family, her students, her community friends, and her church will miss her.

Donations may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association.
