Sammy Millard Kennedy, 63, of Littleville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Helen Keller Hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Daniel Welborn officiating. Burial was in Gray Rock Cemetery.
Sammy had polio as a child and spent many months in the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. While there, he was selected to be the March of Dimes Ambassador. He went on to graduate from Russellville High School and Northwest Alabama State Junior College.
Sammy worked at Flower Craft in Russellville before going on to work with the Alabama Department of Transportation for 26 years. He retired in July 2004. He was very much loved and admired by his family, friends and co-workers.
Sammy is survived by his mother, Letty Jane Metheney Kennedy; sisters, Dean Kennedy Sue McCulloch, and daughter, Donna Miles; Becky Bishop and husband, Keith, and children, Derek and Katy; brothers, Charles Kennedy and wife, Sherrie, and children, Charlie, Diane, Sherry, Kyle, Curt; Larry Kennedy and wife, Sandra, and children, Jeffrey, Joey, and Jeremy; James Kennedy and wife, Sharon and children, Jamey and Kristen; Roger Kennedy and children, Dr. Lee Kennedy and Amanda; nieces Peggy Arborgast, Lynn Moncrief and nephew, Kenneth Williams (children of sister Billie McDaniel, deceased) and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Millard Kenney; and sister, Billie McDaniel.
The pallbearers were nephews, Kenneth Williams, Charlie Kennedy, Joey Kennedy, Jamey Kennedy, Lee Kennedy and Derek Bishop.
