McDowell returns to Roxy for benefit show

For the past 22 years, popular entertainer Ronnie McDowell has been coming to Russellville to perform for many local fans and next weekend he’ll be back again.
McDowell will perform at the Roxy Theater on Saturday, March 24, at 7 p.m., with proceeds from the concert benefiting the renovation of the Roxy.
Wanda Myrick, who serves as the chairman of the Ronnie McDowell concert, said McDowell’s concerts are always a big hit in this area.
“The thing about Ronnie is that he is just a true entertainer,” Myrick said. “He isn’t one to just stand there and sing. He interacts with the crowd and makes it a fun experience. And he never does the same show twice.”
McDowell, who has been a local favorite for many years, said he always enjoys coming back to Russellville.
“I love the people of Russellville,” McDowell said. “They’ve always been so good to me here.
“Performing at the Roxy Theater is always great for me, too, because it’s one of my favorite venues. I love the old theaters.”
McDowell said he was glad to be able to help raise funding for the Roxy because he believes it is a staple in the community.
“I really think that every community needs to have a place like the Roxy,” he said. “It’s just a great place for the people to be able to come together.
“As an artist, I know how important it is for the local artists to have a place where they can showcase their talent. You never know what things that might can happen in the future just by someone being seen and heard at a public venue like that.”
Myrick said McDowell is always willing to help out the community and he’s been a real asset to the area over the years.
“Not only does Ronnie help us raise money for different things through his concerts, but he also has such a great fan base that these people will come from out of town just to see him perform. When these people are staying here and buying things here, it’s just a real boost to the economy of Franklin County.”
McDowell said he will be playing a mixture of old and new songs so there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
“This will be a great, family-friendly show,” Myrick said. “We hope everyone will come out for a night of great entertainment in support of the Roxy.”
Also performing at the show will be Millie Kirkham, who is known for singing with renowned singers such as Elvis Presley and George Jones; Miss UNA Anne-Marie Hall, and local singers Blaze Bishop and Jacob Green.
General admission tickets are still on sale for $15 and can be purchased at Abstract & Appraisal, Inc. For more information call 256-332-3270.
