Scott re-elected as circuit clerk

Circuit Clerk Anita Scott said she was truly humbled by the results of Tuesday’s primary election.

Scott secured 69.4 percent of the vote to defeat political newcomer and local attorney Jeff Barksdale.

“I am so appreciative of all the support I’ve received during this election,” Scott said. “This has been such a humbling experience for me and I don’t know how to thank the people of this county for putting their faith in me to continue serving them as their circuit clerk.”

Scott, who has worked in the Circuit Clerk’s office since 1980 and has served as circuit clerk since 2003, said she felt like her experience and the experience of her staff was what really set her apart in this election.

“The quality of my staff is something I am extremely proud of,” Scott said. “With the way the economy is now, we have had to cut back to five employees but we are still providing the same level of service that we always have. This really says something about the girls in the office and the dedication we have to providing efficient services for the people of this county.”

Scott said she appreciated the clean race run by Barksdale and the professional way he conducted himself throughout the election process.

“Jeff and his family are all very nice people and with Jeff being a local attorney, I feel confident we will still be able to do business together as usual thanks to the positive attitude he had throughout the campaign.”

Scott said one of the main reasons she was honored to have the opportunity to continue her job as circuit clerk was because it gives her the opportunity to serve the community she grew up in and loves.

“Franklin County is the place I call home and the people here are my friends and neighbors,” she said. “Serving as the circuit clerk is just one way I feel like I can give back to the people who have given me so much.”
