Master Sgt. Teddy J. Murray, retired, 77, Phil Campbell, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital from an extended illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Akins Funeral Home with the family presiding over the service.

Interment will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Pallbearers will be his nephews. Grandsons, Drake Williford and Aaron Creasy will serve as honorary pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deanna Hessinger Murray; parents, Ted F. and Susie Bates Murray; sister, Evelyn Larch.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Myrick Murray; children, Robin Murray, Arizona, Carolyn Murray, Russellville, Mark Lane, Russellville, Myra Creasy, Russellville, Penny Hughes, Vina; siblings, Avis Emery, Joan Murray, Fred Murray, Betty Bigelow and husband, Steve, Robert Murray and wife, Shelia; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

He lived his life in service to others with 20 years in the US Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, eight years as Mayor of Phil Campbell and four years on the Phil Campbell City Council. He was active in the Spruce Pine Masonic Lodge #608, American Legion, Disabled Veterans and retired from the Army with the rank of Master Sgt.

While serving in the Army he was the recipient of the following ribbons and medals: National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver and one bronze Service Star, Meritorious Unit Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Valorous Unit Award; Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Silver, One Loop;  Expert Pistol; Army Occupation Medal (Germany); Overseas Service Medal ( Alaska).
