Police arrest armed robbery suspect

After an extensive investigation, police have apprehended the man that entered a county convenience store last week and robbed the storeowner at gunpoint.
Damien Lee Nix, 22, 1305 Jackson Ave., Russellville, was arrested on Thursday and charged with first-degree robbery for robbing A&A County Line Quick Stop at gunpoint on Nov. 21.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, Nix is accused of entering the store on County Line Road at about 6:20 p.m. Monday dressed in black clothing and wearing a black ski mask.
Oliver said witness reports said Nix pointed a gun at storeowner Alex McClusky and told him to put all the money from the register in the bag.
After McClusky put the money in the bag, witnesses said Nix fled the scene on foot. Oliver said McClusky pursued him for a short distance after firing three rounds at Nix but eventually lost sight of him.
Oliver said the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Colbert and Lawrence County Sheriff’s departments responded to the scene and searched the area with the assistance of the Russellville Police Department’s K-9 Unit but were unable to track down the suspect at the time.
He said the on-going investigation eventually led to Nix being developed as the main suspect.
“We have been working very hard ever since the crime took place to catch the person responsible and get him off the street,” Oliver said. “If someone was willing to rob a store at gunpoint, we knew that person was dangerous and needed to be apprehended as quickly as possible.”
Nix remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
