Police: man assaults victim over $26.50 debt

A Russellville man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly deciding to settle an outstanding debt with violence.

Vincent Paul Gaudio, 38, 104 Sockwell Ave., Russellville, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree attempted assault, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, police received a call from a victim on Gaines Avenue who said Gaudio had broken into his home and tried to attack him with a wooden club.

Hargett said the fight was prompted by an unpaid debt of $26.50 that the victim reportedly owed Gaudio.

Gaudio allegedly tried to hit the victim with the club and the victim threw various kitchen items at him to get him to stop. After Gaudio left the residence, the victim called police.

Both Gaudio and the victim were treated for minor injuries at Russellville Hospital.

Gaudio was released from custody on a $25,000 bond.
