Phil Campbell VFD receives $40K grant

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) announced Friday that the Phil Campbell Fire Department has been awarded $40,670 in a federal grant as part of the ninth round of the Fiscal Year 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

This program awards one-year grant money directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to support them and the services they deliver.

“These grants are very important to many of our local fire departments, especially those whose budgets have been impacted by the sluggish economy,” Aderholt said.

“Fire departments like the Phil Campbell Fire Department are doing a good job protecting our communities with limited resources, and I’m pleased that they have received this funding.”

These awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. On Friday, January 7, Aderholt was selected to be Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which is the funding subcommittee for the operations of the Department of Homeland Security.

The Town of Phil Campbell Fire Department received this funding through the Operations and Safety Program, which can be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.

Since 2001, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program has provided approximately $4.6 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training. During fiscal year 2010, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will award another $390 million to organizations that need support to improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.
