All-County Football Team

Brent Calloway is the Franklin County Times Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. | Scot Beard/FCT

Russellville’s Brent Calloway has dominated opposing defenses the past three seasons and has dominated the Franklin County Times All-County Football Team as well, earning Player of the Year honors for the third season in a row.

Calloway led the Golden Tigers with 1,973 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns.

He is listed by many recruiting services as one of the best players in the nation and was a verbal commitment to Alabama before switching his college choice to Auburn while taking part in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl festivities.

Calloway will compete in the USA Football Team USA vs. The World Game Feb. 2 in Austin, Texas.

Culver is Coach of the Year

When Bo Culver took over as head coach of the Phil Campbell football team he had one goal in mind — to turn the squad into a playoff team.

Culver has not reached that point yet during his two seasons with the Bobcats, but he has restored the community’s enthusiasm about the team.

Culver took over a program that won a single game during the two seasons before his arrival in 2009 and brought it within a single win of the playoffs this season. The 4-6 record of the 2010 Bobcats equaled the win total of the three previous seasons.

With the improved success of the team, Culver has generated interest in the program from students, which will lead to more players as Culver chases his dream of guiding the Bobcats to the playoffs.
