Second arrest made in boat theft

A Phil Campbell man accused of stealing about $50,000 worth of equipment in Franklin and Colbert counties turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday morning.

Jeffrey Landon Fitzgerald, 45, 536 Hyde Road, was arrested on one count of first-degree receiving stolen and one count of first-degree theft of property, officials said.

Fitzgerald is accused of stealing a 2005 Larson boat worth $25,000 from Freeman’s Marine on Alabama 24 in Russellville on Dec. 17, officials said.

Authorities also said that Fitzgerald is accused in the theft of a 1999 Caterpillar backhoe from a business in Muscle Shoals that was reported missing in November.

Rhonda Odom Hill, 43, 536 Hyde Road, was arrested on two counts of first-degree receiving stolen property on Dec. 21 for her involvement in both crimes.

Both Fitzgerald and Hill were released on bond – Fitzgerald on a $10,000 property bond and Hill on a $5,000 bond.
