Six local players named All-State

Franklin County had six local players named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State team.

Six area football players earned spots on the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State team for the 2010 season.

Russellville leads local teams with two players earning First Team honors and two other players earning Honorable Mentions in Class 5A.

Phil Campbell and Red Bay had one player each earn Honorable Mentions in Class 2A.

Russellville’s Brent Calloway led area players earning honors. He was named to the First Team as a running back, earned Class 5A Back of the Year Honors and was named to the Super 12 — given to the top 12 players in the state regardless of classification.

Calloway’s selection to the Super 12 puts him in the running for Mr. Football, which will be announced Jan. 12 at the ASWA Player of the Year Awards Luncheon Presented by Hibbett Sports.

Offensive lineman Daniel Hollimon of Russellville also received First Team honors.

On the defensive side of the ball, Russellville’s Darrian Graham and Robert Terrell earned Honorable Mentions. Graham was selected as a defensive back while Terrell was selected as a linebacker.

Phil Campbell’s Dylan Rice, who helped lead the Bobcats to their best season in years, was selected as an Honorable Mention at wide receiver.

Red Bay’s Kevin Hastings, who averaged 37.5 yards per punt was selected as and Honorable Mention at punter.
