Council should do strong research for alcohol laws

When voters approved alcohol sales for the city of Russellville the city council began researching various ordinances to put in place to allow sales to begin.
The council has looked at various laws in other towns to try and find the best solution for Russellville.
While this is a good idea — it allows council members to see what works and what does not work — members of the council must remember that Russellville is a unique town. What works in one city might not work here and what did not work in another town might be the right solution for Russellville.
There are many issues to consider, and other towns have demonstrated that alcohol sales can bring in much-neede revenue if the proper ordinances are in place.
This is a tough task facing the council.
There were enough votes in favor of legalized sales to send the clear message that the citizens want alcohol in Russellville, but many of the supporters are not eager to see the strip turned into Bourbon Street.
The city council should take its time to research all options and find the best solution for Russellville.
Legalized alcohol sales can help the city, but that progress should not come at the expense of town’s charm.
