Library offers many resources

The Russellville Library is excited to offer some helpful programs for Franklin County residents.

The library’s computer and job center is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Librarian Deborah Barnett thinks that the job center is important because it offers vital resources that aren’t offered anywhere else.

“We are one of the only public places where someone can use the Internet to fill out job applications,” Barnett said. “This is so important, especially during this economy. I would say three-fourths of the people who use our computers use them for job hunting.”

The library also posts current job listings, whether local or out-of-town.

“We posted jobs that became available during the oil spill and I think we had a few people take those jobs,” Barnett said.

Local resident Ricky Stephenson has already found the computer and job center to be helpful.

“It’s very convenient for me to come here to use the computers for updating my mail and for my business,” Stephenson said. “I wouldn’t be able to get any of that done if it wasn’t offered here at the library.”

The library now has Wi-Fi capability as well, and residents are welcomed to get each day’s password so they can access the Internet from their wireless devices, Barnett said.

Another regular program offered at the library is the preschool reading program.

“This is the time of year that we usually put together a new group,” Barnett said. “We usually get around eight mothers to run the program and they’ll read a book and do a craft with the kids. The library provides the materials for the craft, and this is especially fun around the different holidays.”

Anyone who is interested in more information about the computer and job center or the preschool reading program can contact the library at 256-332-1535.
