Tigers host Hatton in key region game

RED BAY — The Tigers suffered a tough loss last week to rival Belmont, but the good news about the loss for Red Bay is that it did not count against the region standings.

This week the Tigers will need to refocus on region play when they host Hatton.

Red Bay picked up a crucial win against Lamar County two weeks ago to keep its playoff hopes alive by earning its first win in region play.

The Tigers and Hornets are in similar situations this week as both are 1-2 in region play, which puts them in a three-way tie with Phil Campbell for fifth in the region standings. The top four teams make the playoffs.

The loser of this game will have a tough time reaching the playoffs.

Red Bay played well for more than a half against Belmont before the Cardinals wore them down with their size advantage. Hatton will not have that luxury.

The Hornets offense is averaging 21.2 points per game, but their only region win came against lowly Cherokee. Red Bay is allowing 26 points per game.

The Tigers offense will be the key to this game. If it executes well and does not turn the ball over, Red Bay should win this game.

If Red Bay gives the Hatton offense the ball in good field position, it could be a long night for the Tigers.
