Man back in jail just weeks after release

A Russellville man released from prison only three weeks ago has been arrested on burglary and theft charges.

Chad Everett Cochran, 27, 291 Rustic Loop, Russellville, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree theft of property and third-degree burglary, both Class C felonies.

According to authorities, a report was made that prescription and over-the-counter drugs had been stolen from a Franklin County residence.

Investigators from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the Russellville Police Department and the District Attorney’s office who were working together on the case realized that Cochran had been released from prison on Aug. 27 after serving an 18-month split sentence on burglary and theft charges that occurred in 2008.

The crime fit the description of similar crimes committed by Cochran in the past so officers accompanied Cochran’s probation officer to his home where he was picked up for questioning.

After being presented with evidence collected at the scene, Cochran admitted his involvement in the crime.

“This just shows that when agencies work together and share resources, cases like this can be solved quickly before any other crimes are committed,” Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said. “Because of the hard work of all the agencies involved, we have a good case against this defendant.”

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said a motion to revoke Cochran’s probation has been filed and is set for a hearing Sept. 23.

Cochran’s bond is set at $12,500 but he is being held on probation violations before he is eligible for release.
