Couple charged with making meth

Two Russellville residents have been taken into custody after a meth lab was discovered at their home Friday.

James Gregory Greenhill, 37, and Cortney Renee Sherrill, 25, both of 1041 Franklin 60, Russellville, have been charged with first-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child.

According to authorities, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department learned the two suspects had manufacturing warrants in Colbert County and investigators with the FCSD secured a search warrant for the suspects’ residence.

While executing the warrant, investigators discovered various chemicals, tools to manufacture and administer meth and discarded meth labs.

Investigators also discovered a two-year-old child was asleep in the same room containing a shake-and-bake meth lab.

“It’s bad enough to see mature people who have a problem with drug use,” Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said, “but when an innocent child is involved who could be damaged by the chemical exposure and all the other dangerous aspects of a meth lab, it just makes it that much worse.”

After DHR was contacted, the child was released into the custody of family members and taken to a family doctor since the child had been in such close proximity to the chemicals.

Members of HAZMAT secured the residence and cleaned up the lab.

“This is an ongoing problem we’re dealing with,” Plott said. “We urge members of the community to contact the sheriff’s department immediately if they have information on drug activity in the area.”

Both Greenhill and Sherrill have been released on bond.
