Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for enticing child
A Franklin County man charged with inappropriately enticing an 8-year-old girl was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, said Franklin County courthouse officials.
John Wayne Vickery, 45, of 110 Campbell Arms Apartments, Apt. C7, entered a plea of guilty for interference with child custody
Thursday morning at the Franklin County Courthouse.
An indictment was handed down by a Franklin County grand jury in January for the August 2009 incident involving Vickery and the 8-year-old girl.
Sgt. Terrell Potter of the Phil Campbell Police Department arrested Vickery on Tuesday, Aug. 18 after reports claiming that he was able to entice a young girl to climb the back wall of the apartment building up to his second-story apartment on Aug.13 at Campbell Arms apartment complex.
Authorities said the child used an electrical box and phone cable to climb up to Vickery’s apartment.
Investigators said the child escaped through the front door after Vickery allegedly hugged and kissed her inappropriately.
Vickery asked a Franklin County judge for probation only during his sentencing hearing.
The judge denied the request and imposed the entire 10-year sentence as a result of the charges being Class C felonies.
Vickery had been in jail for nine months prior to his sentencing.
