Lady Tigers claim county softball title

RED BAY – Red Bay used three multiple-run innings to roll past Phil Campbell 10-4 to capture the Franklin County Junior High Softball Tournament.
The Lady Bobcats opened the game with a pair of runs in the first inning as Vickie McAllister and Taylor Allen scored.
Red Bay answered with three runs from Monique Delaney, Alaina Hester and Audrey Goss.
Hester and Goss scored again in the third inning along with Kelly Ballard to push Red Bay’s lead to 6-2.
Hester, Goss, Ballard and Carly Berry scored for Red Bay in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-2, but Phil Campbell would not go down without a fight.
The Lady Bobcats scored twice in fifth inning, but Red Bay cut the rally short to clinch the title.
Delaney recorded six strikeouts for Red Bay while Goss, Berry and Amanda White each had a pair of hits. One of Berry’s hits was an inside-the-park home run.
Morgan Shelnutt singled and tripled to lead the Lady Bobcats while Tiffany Cole, McAllister and Allen each singled.
Phil Campbell 5,
East Franklin 4
Phil Campbell’s Brittany Thomas scored on a single by Kassidy Karr in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat East Franklin 5-4 in the final game of the Losers’ Bracket to advance to the championship game.
Madison Hardy, Kassy Baker and Taylor Pace all scored for the Lady Rebels in the first inning to give East Franklin a 3-0 lead.
Lexie Thompson scored for Phil Campbell in the bottom of the first and Karr scored in the second inning to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Lady Bobcats took the lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs from Thompson and McAllister.
Courtney Baker tied the game in the fifth inning for East Franklin.
Phil Campbell 3,
Belgreen 2
The Lady Bobcats used a fifth-inning rally to eliminate Belgreen from the tournament.
Shelnutt scored in the second inning to give Phil Campbell a brief lead in the second inning, but Belgreen answered in the third.
Brooke Williams and Bekkah Anderson both scored for the Lady Bulldogs.
Belgreen retained the lead until Karr tied the game in the fifth on a single by McAllister. McAllister later scored to give Phil Campbell the victory.
Red Bay 5,
East Franklin 4
East Franklin scored a pair of runs in the first inning, but four runs by Red Bay in the second inning sparked the Lady Tigers to victory and clinched them a spot in the championship game.
Kassy Baker and Pace scored the early runs for East Franklin and both scored again in the third inning to tie the game.
Red Bay’s Lexi Lindsey, Ballard, Berry and White each scored for the Lady Tigers in the second.
Delaney scored the winning run in the fifth when she tripled then scored on a pass ball.
Belgreen 6,
Tharptown 4
Tharptown scored three runs in the fifth inning, but the rally came up short as Belgreen held on for the win and eliminated the Lady Wildcats from the Tournament.
Belgreen’s Jessica Howard and Laken Beasley scored in the first inning to give the Lady Bulldogs the early lead.
Erica Valdez scored for Tharptown in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Howard and Lynsi Bragwell both scored in the second to extend the lead for Belgreen. Tori Hulsey scored in the third and Beasley scored in the fourth to push the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to 6-1.
Danielle Creasy, Avery Rhea, Caitlin Potter and Kathy Alfaro each scored for the Lady Wildcats in the fifth inning.
East Franklin 7,
Phil Campbell 2
Phil Campbell took and early 2-0 lead, but East Franklin responded with a seven-run inning to send the Lady Bobcats to the Losers’ Bracket.
Karr and McAllister scored for Phil Campbell in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Rebels answered in the bottom of the inning.
Hardy, Kassy Baker, Pace, Autumn Thomas, Ashley Baker, Courtney Baker, Britney Berry and Karli Hill all scored for East Franklin.
Red Bay 3,
Belgreen 1
Chloe Wallace gave the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Delaney tied the game in the bottom of the inning for Red Bay.
Hester gave Red Bay its first lead of the game in the third inning when she scored on a pass ball.
Berry gave the Lady Tigers an insurance run in the fourth inning to seal the victory.
Phil Campbell 3,
Tharptown 1
The Lady Bobcats opened the tourney with a pair of runs by Karr and McAllister in the first inning and sent Tharptown to the Losers’ Bracket with a 3-1 win.
Kamri Sears scored the Lady Wildcats’ only run in the second inning while Thompson added an extra run for Phil Campbell in the fourth inning.
