Wet/dry referendum must be taken seriously

A petition is being circulated to garner names asking that the city of Russellville start selling alcohol.
It is something that has not been addressed in the city since 1984 when the entire county voted on the issue. A recent state law allows towns with more than 1,000 residents to vote as to whether or not alcohol sales should be allowed in those municipalities.
This issue will bring strong support from those in favor and those against it.
The city, as well as the nation, is facing difficult times and people everywhere are looking at new options. Wet/dry referendums are beginning to be held all over Alabama and it appears inevitable that Russellville will be no different. As things move forward, we urge all citizens to research the issue, look at other similar towns and decide what you believe is best for everyone in Russellville. This decision will have far-reaching effects on our future and should not be taken lightly.
