Tharptown comes up short against Hubbard

Tharptown's defense limited R.A. Hubbard to only eight points in the first quarter, but the Lady Chiefs offense began to roll in the second as they knocked the Lady Wildcats out of the playoffs with a 68-64 victory.
Tharptown held a 12-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Hubbard out scored the Lady Wildcats 20-12 in the next quarter to build a 28-24 lead at halftime.
Hubbard pushed the advantage to eight points at the end of the third quarter and extended it to 16 points during the fourth.
Tharptown rallied back and got within striking distance in the closing minutes, but the Lady Chiefs were able to pull away for the four-point win.
Kendra Baker led the Lady Wildcats with 31 points while Chelsea McCluskey scored 10 points.
Also scoring for Tharptown were Breadon Sellers (9), Chloe Lane (7), Kamri Sears (5) and Heather Hatton (2).
It was a similar situation to last year's sub-regional loss for the Lady Wildcats.
In 2009, Tharptown lost by five points at Hazlewood behind an impressive performance by the Lady Golden Bears' Amber Jones.
In 2010, Tharptown lost by four points to Hubbard – the school that merged with Hazlewood – behind and impressive performance by the Lady Chiefs' Alex Gholston – Jones' cousin.
With the loss, the Lady Wildcats finish the season with a record of 12-13.
