Parties gear up for election season

Let the political battles begin.
Election season is just around the corner and Franklin County Democrats and Republicans are eager to get a jump-start on positions coming available in local offices.
Offices up for renewal on the local level this upcoming election will includes sheriff, coroner and school board seats for district two and district four.
State level offices up for election include Franklin County district attorney, state senator and state representative.
All offices are currently held by Democrats, but the Republican Party hopes to make a few changes this election season.
Fancher said a meeting will be held on Feb. 18 for anyone that is interested in helping the Franklin County Republicans elect qualified candidates in the upcoming election.
Franklin County has traditionally been a Democratic stronghold, particularly in local races, and party leaders do not expect that to change.
Hamilton said he hopes to have all of the qualifying details ironed out by the end of next week and looks forward to the political races this season.
The qualifying for available offices will end at 5 p.m. on April 2.
