HATTON -It was the Ciara Harville show Monday night as the Phil Campbell varsity girls basketball team knocked off Cherokee 63-38 in the opening round of the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament.
Harville recorded a double-double for the Lady Bobcats with a game-high 30 points and a total of 15 rebounds.
Phil Campbell jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Lady Bobcats led by 19 points at halftime and by as many as 34 in the second half.
"They are athletic, but they have a hard time scoring," said Phil Campbell coach Amy Moss.
Caitlin Stancil also reached double-digit scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 15 points.
Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Whitley Yocom (6), Autumn Thomas (6), Sara Hilliard (3), Ashley Edgar (3) and Amber Jones (1).
With the win Phil Campbell advances to the semifinals to play Hatton.
The Hornets swept the Lady Bobcats during the regular season. Phil Campbell lost on the road 61-38 and lost at home 51-46.
Moss said it would be difficult to slow down Hatton's offense.
"You have to pick your poison," Moss said. "You do the best you can on Jordan Johnson, but you also have to keep the outside shooters from getting hot."
