Eula Bracie Motes Smith

Eula Bracie Motes Smith, 87, of Phil Campbell passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at Russellville Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Franklin County on Monday, Jan. 23, 1922 to Richard Motes and Ada Heath Motes. She was a member of Blue Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at Akins Funeral Home with Bro. John McCullar officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian Lewis, Steven Smith, Zachary Smith, Stacy Smith, Greg Smith, Marshall Motes, Phillip Ergle and Billy Weeks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie Smith; son, Wayne Smith; parents, Richard and Ada Motes; siblings, Zinnie Dye, Rachel Ergle and Foy Motes.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Smith and wife, Sue, Harold Smith and wife, Sandra; siblings, Lula Weeks, Dallas Briley, David Motes and wife, Mary Jo, Verdie Hood and husband, Lester, Mildred Matthews, Opal Smith and Maudrey Newell; grandchildren, Steven Smith and wife, Tina, Bridget Smith and Joedy, Stacy Smith and wife, Kristie, Lisa Lewis and husband, Brian, Greg Smith and wife, Fansia; great-grandchildren, Amanda Hightower and husband, Chris, Kayla Smith, Zachary Smith, Kara Hill and husband, Casey, Jordan Baxter; great-great-grandchild, Emma Hill; step-granddaughters, Kathy Givens and husband, Andy, and Kim Marks; eleven step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Burns Nursing Home, Russellville Hospital 2nd floor and ICU nurses; Dr. Becker and Southern Care Hospice, especially, Ruby Sheffield.
James Guy Bates

James Guy Bates, 95, of Phil Campbell passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at Russellville Health Care Nursing Home. He was born in Franklin County on Friday, Sept. 18, 1914 to L.O. Bates and Bertie Camp Bates.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at Akins Funeral Home with Rev. Darryl Bates and Rev. Sammy Taylor officiating. Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brent Wells, Mark Wells, Chris Lane, Jason, Lane, Jeremy Lane and Tim Wells.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Velvie Nix Bates; parents, L.O. and Bertie Bates; sisters, Pauline Taylor and Irene Stidham; brothers, Raymond O. Bates and John Bates; son-in-law, Forest Oliver; and grandson, Terry Kyle Oliver.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Oliver; son, James Shorty Bates and wife, Jan; grandchildren, Renee Lane and husband, Jimmy, Donna Wells and husband, Tim, Tammy Taylor and husband, Jimmy, Darryl Bates and wife, Karyn; great-grandchildren, Chris Lane, Jason Lane and wife, Crystal, Jeremy Lane and wife, Kristy, Amy Tidwell and husband, Randy, Brent Wells, Mark Wells and wife, Jamie, Kassie Bates, Regan Bates, Olivia Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Lane, Mia Lane, Mason Lane, Makayla Lane, Thomas Baker, Dylan Lane, Wyatt Tidwell; host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Rachel Thornton.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of Spruce Pine. He graduated from Phil Campbell High School and was a retired dairy farmer.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Russellville Health Care for the loving care given to Guy during his stay.
Bryan Keith Tidwell

Bryan Keith Tidwell, 34, of Bear Creek, Ala. passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at his home. He was a mechanic with Marshall Durbin, and a member of Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Dept.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2010 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Frank Stone officiating. Burial followed at Hines Memorial Cemetery in Bear Creek.
He is survived by his wife, Tonya Heatherly Tidwell; children, Sydney Heatherly, Chandler Heatherly, Candice Heatherly and Jadan Tidwell; brothers, Chris Dickinson and Seth Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Tidwell and Robbie Lowman.
